How to Let Go of the Old, and Create Something New!

As human beings, we are meant to keep evolving and becoming better versions of ourselves. We are made to live as creators who have the power to continually transform our lives.

But here is one of the main reasons that this can feel so difficult. We are also made in such a way as to accumulate and hold onto our past experiences. Those past experiences tend to hold a greater priority in our thinking, simply because they have already happened. They have already proven themselves to be ‘real’, simply because they manifested.

So whenever you have a bright vision or desire for your future, you immediately recognize that this new vision has not yet manifested. And when you compare it to the feeling of the past that has manifested, that future vision doesn’t feel as real.

Your mind then compares these two feelings, and thus concludes that a repetition of the past is much more likely than the unfolding of a brand new future.

So the result is that whenever you grow tired of living through your past experiences and desire to make positive changes, those previous experiences can become an impediment simply because they seem more real. They make it more difficult to believe that you can change.

Why letting go is necessary

Everything in your life takes up space. That space can be physical, it can be in the form of time, or it can be in the form of energy. It can also be in the form of things such as beliefs and ideas that live in your consciousness.

In order to create a new future for yourself, you will have to create the space for it. You will have to be willing to let go of some things, in order to make room for others.

But here’s the mistake that we so often make: We want to keep everything as it is, and yet still experience transformation. The reason that we do this is because we want to continue to hold onto the past because we see it as a sure thing. Remember, the past has already manifested, so in our minds that proves it to be real and possible. It’s like a security blanket, in case the new vision doesn’t work out.

So why can’t you have your cake and eat it, too, so to speak? Until you make visible changes in your life for the better, your past will continue to manifest in the now because it’s all that you have. The longer that you allow this to continue, the more leverage that past has over your consciousness. And the harder it will be to experience something different.

Here’s an example: Let’s say that you work at a job that you hate. But you’ve been working there for many years. You even got educated for that specific profession. You have an awful lot of “past” to back up the existence of that job in your life. It is all abundantly real!

But the job is making you miserable, and you would much prefer to be doing something else. So you imagine a new line of work – maybe even becoming an entrepreneur! This idea excites you, except for one thing. It doesn’t feel very real compared to the long term manifestation of your job. So you doubt that it’s a good idea.

What most people do at this point is to move into wishful thinking and procrastination. They hope that someday their life will magically change, and they will discover themselves living the life they always dreamed of. In other words, they keep the future in the future. So it never manifests in the now.

What this all adds up to is feeling stuck. Your past is stuck in manifesting over and over again in the now. And your future vision stays stuck in the future. So nothing moves, and nothing ever changes.

Thus you have to be willing to let go of the past, in order to make room for your future vision to begin manifesting in the now.

How can I let go?

The only thing that can motivate you to let go of the past is a greater desire for a better future. You basically have to become sick and tired of the same old thing manifesting in your life, even if you have every reason in the world as to why this is so.

You have to stop caring about the reasons why your past keeps manifesting, and be far more interested in creating something new.

Your greater interest and desire for a better future will cause you to let go of any need to hold onto the past, and instead you will begin reaching for that better vision that you desire.

Here’s a really simple analogy. Picture a baby or a young child holding onto a toy. This child is so attached to this toy that no amount of persuasion will motivate them to let go and give it up. (They might even start screaming if you try to forcibly take it away, which is just how tenacious we can be with our past.) So what will cause that child to let go and lose interest in that toy? A new and better toy that they desire more!

This is why it is so often said that you need to be emotionally invested in your vision for a new and better future. The more you build a greater emotional desire for your vision of something new, the more willing you will be to let go of your past and its ongoing manifestation in the now. Just like an old toy, that same old manifestation will become less and less interesting to you.

You will naturally begin to shift your energy investment away from the old, repetitive manifestations in your life into creating something new.

Once I let go, how do I create something new?

Letting go of the old and creating something new happens simultaneously. You have to have a new vision that inspires you to want to let go of the old.

It has been said that all things are created twice. Everything must first be created in the mind before it can be created in the physical. So you need to start with creating a vision of something new in your mind that makes you happy. You need to create something that you can be emotionally invested in.

Functioning like a creator means to allow the elements of time to flow through us naturally. We release the past, and let it go. We envision the future that we want, and let it come towards us in our minds so we can embrace it and enact it in the present.

Creating something new is a process of continuously letting go of the past, and taking action in the present toward something new that we have envisioned with joy in our hearts and minds.

The more that you hang onto the past and stay emotionally invested in it, the more difficult it will be to create something new. There will simply be no space in your life or in your consciousness for that new thing to be envisioned and then to manifest.

So the key is to maintain a balance. The degree to which you are willing to let go, is the degree to which you will be able to allow for and create something new.

Ultimately, you want to look at it this way: Your vision for something new only exists in the future until it physically manifests. The whole idea is to bring that future vision into manifestation in the now. Then you can decide to keep it that way, or let it go and create something even better.

Letting go of the old and creating the new is a matter of flow. Keep that flow going, and you will be able to create whatever you wish!

Maybe you can picture the life you want quite clearly. But when you look around, the same old things keep manifesting, and nothing seems to move. This happens to so many of us. Remember, your past has already manifested, so it simply feels more real than your vision. And until you learn how to change that, your past will keep showing up in the now.

This is exactly what I teach in my ebook, How to Use the Law of Attraction to Create Your Perfect Life. In it, I demystify the Law of Attraction once and for all, and give you the keys to finally move toward the life you truly desire. This ebook explores manifestation as a practical, grounded skill, not wishful thinking or vague esoteric concepts. You’ll learn how to apply this law correctly and consistently, so you can get unstuck and start bringing your vision into the now.

If you’re ready to stop keeping your future in the future, I would love for you to read it.
