Being yourself is a matter of alignment. You see, you already are yourself. You can’t help that. The question therefore becomes: are you actually aligned with yourself? Oftentimes, the answer is no, because we are taught to first conform to the beliefs and ideals of those around us. Whatever is left over is what we get for ourselves.
So you may feel confused about who you really are, because you might be living a mixture of you and the demands of other people, including society at large.
The Cost of Living Out of Alignment

To go against yourself is hard work and produces a lot of stress and strain. It makes it difficult to accomplish what you feel most passionate about. It can make you feel unable to achieve your goals and dreams. Which only drives you further into doing what you really don’t want to be doing.
Rather than trying to figure out who you really are, start thinking about self-alignment. Do you feel centered and secure? Do you trust yourself? What is your level of self-esteem? If the answer to any of these questions is “no,” realize that it is possibly because you are living out of alignment with yourself.
If your spine is out of alignment, then energy can’t flow very well to other parts of your body, and you will experience pain and weakness. If you are out of alignment with yourself, then your power and energy to create will likewise be diminished. You can therefore fall prey to the weakness and pain of self-doubt.
Finding Your Way Back to Yourself

So here’s what to do: Start thinking about what feels natural to you. This is the essence of self-alignment. What kinds of things would you happily do for free, if you didn’t need the money? What activities bring you joy? And where in life do you feel a sense of effortlessness and natural enthusiasm? What are you naturally gifted at?
The next thing to do is to look at your own personal needs. Are those needs being met? Or do you tend to neglect yourself in favor of other things? What can you do to love yourself more? Self love actually comes naturally to your most authentic self. Plus, if you don’t care for yourself, you will soon run out of energy to care for anyone else or pursue your authentic goals and dreams.
The Relief of Being Yourself

The more that you can discover ways to align with your true self, the happier and more empowered you will feel. Life will feel more energized and certain. You will thus contribute far greater things into the world.
Think of being yourself as a relief. You don’t have to struggle for the approval and acceptance of others, or lose yourself to other people’s expectations, because you naturally accept yourself. You can relax. Your energy can flow freely without the constraints of fear and worry. Imagine how your energy levels can rise when you’re no longer struggling to be someone you’re not.
So give yourself the freedom to express yourself naturally in your own life and into the world. You will therefore be an inspiration to others who are secretly longing to do the same!
Alignment is the Beginning. Creation is the Next Step…

Being yourself is what happens when you stop conforming. But there’s a second piece I see people miss all the time: once you’re aligned, are you actually creating the life that reflects who you are? Or, are you still waiting for it to happen to you?
I wrote The Creator’s Path – a free guide and worksheet – to walk you through the exact shift from feeling stuck (what I call the “victim mindset”) to living as the empowered creator of your own life, in 4 simple, repeatable steps you can apply to any area where you feel dissatisfied or stalled.
